Janet Chavez Santiago is a fourth-generation weaver an author, educator and native Zapotec speaker from Teotitlán del Valle, in Oaxaca, Mexico.

She uses the yarn threads and her stories as a medium to explore, enjoy, and live hermculture and language.

Janet advocates for the representation, utility, and complexity of both the weaving tradition and the Zapotec language in the contemporary world.

As an educator, Janet works with both children and adults across national and international contexts to explore and reform prevalent perceptions of the weaving process and appreciation and promotes linguistic exploration, learning, and use of the Zapotec language.
