Yuka Uehara is a San Francisco-based artist and fashion designer. She founded Tokyo Gamine in 2015. The label features unique and individualized couture garments in collaboration with clients.
Both her art and designs explore concepts of freedom and radical self-expression. Being an accomplished painter, Uehara is known for hand painting each of her designs, adding personalization and specificity to each piece. She is noted for her strong collaborations with clients, making garments that are tailored specifically to the wearer’s life, allowing them to experience something that is uniquely theirs. Her designs also take inspiration from nature, mythology, psychology, and at times the wearer’s personal history.
Stan Padilla is a Yaqui artist, educator, and cultural activist. As a member of the Royal Chicano Airforce, Stan painted murals focusing on social justice and the civil rights movement. Currently, he is developing an artists’ sanctuary and spiritual cultural center. A sustainable artist honoring traditional practices, Stan used aboriginal grinding stones to create the natural stone pigments included in this MakeArt Kit.
