Designers on Jewellery: Twelve Years of Jewellery Production
‘Chi ha paura…?’, the Netherlands based jewellery production brand with the unpronounceable name and the question mark, is celebrating its twelve-year anniversary. The Italian name means Who is afraid of…?, followed implicitly by contemporary jewellery. CHP sets out to generate intelligent jewellery designs that bear testimony to clear and new concepts, and which are fit for production in series, advocating innovative production methods and materials.
A 152 page book designed by Joost Grootens Studio, Designers on Jewellery: Twelve years of Jewellery production by Chi ha paura…? has been published by Arnoldsche Art Publishers on this occasion. The book features specially commissioned photography by Rien Bazen and an essay, ‘The Quest for Intelligent Design Jewellery,’ by Liesbeth den Besten.
The book brings together the comprehensive collection of 74 pieces, including 40 sales collection pieces, 15 limited editions and 19 prototypes spanning the original collection of 1996, and the three subsequently launched themes, Sense of Wonder of 2002, What’s Luxury of 2004 and Rituals of 2007. The collection ranges from classic designs by Gijs Bakker and Emmy van Leersum to biomorphic designs by Australian product designer Marc Newson, novelties like Ron Arad’s text bracelet, ‘not made by hand, not made in China,’ Frank Tjepkema’s award-winning cruciform pendant ‘Bling Bling,’ and Marcel Wanders’ golden ‘Nose,’ now the well-recognized logo of the Marcel Wanders Studio.
